Motivation

motivation Motivation

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to speak at our Division Leadership rally in Lansing and one of the topics in my message was on motivation, so I wanted to share some more on that subject with you. The reason I wanted to talk to you about motivation is because it’s what keeps us going and moving forward in every area of our lives…not just our Avon business.

I’m going to ask you a question and I really want you to think about it. Do some soul searching as you think about how you would answer.

The question is: What motivates me?

What motivates you? What excites you and makes you want to get off the couch and out the door?

One thing that motivates me is hearing or reading about other people who have made it to the top and are living their dreams. I recently purchased the book, “A View From the Top” written by successful Senior Executive Unit Leaders. Each one shares their story of how they got started in Avon, their struggles, failures, and what made the difference for them when they finally decided to go for it. Not a single one in the book had it easy, or was successful overnight. They all built their businesses one day at a time. The difference, however, is how they decided to spend their days.

Stories like that motivate me. If they can do it, after reading their stories, I know I can do it too. Many of them come from similar backgrounds as me, same income level, same dysfunctional family or have a similar story as mine. When I read their stories, I realize it doesn’t matter where you come from, all that matters is where you’re going.

Let me ask you again? What motivates you? Ask yourself this question. What motivates ME? Does hearing these stories motivate YOU to action? Does it make you want to get out there and try new things? Does it make you think, ‘if they can do it, I can do it?’ If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I recommend you A. get the book “A View from the top” and B. Find some other books or media that will motivate and inspire you and C. find something that motivates you every day.

Zig Ziglar, a famous motivational speaker who passed away recently, said, “People often say motivation doesn’t last. Neither does bathing-that’s why we recommend it daily”. We need to motivate ourselves every day! And when we do that, soon we will see all our dreams come true.
