Finding the Right Skin Care Regimen for You
Hey everyone! I just got back from “Making Dreams Come True” National Conference in Beautiful Orlando Florida!!! It was a whirlwind trip, down and back in 4 days, but so worth it!!! I’m going to learn to make conferences also vacation time and spend more time in the lovely places Avon sends me!!! Anyway, while I was down there, I was able to take one of the Skin Care Classes Avon is offering in different cities across the US. I learned so much about our skin, skin layers, why they are important and what they do, as well as how to determine skin type and skin care concerns! So I wanted to share with you some of the information I received, in a condensed format, and help you determine your skin type and concerns and help you find the right regimen.
Determining your skin type
There are 4 skin types:
- Dry-your skin is dry if it’s tight, has no oil or moisture, may look dull, and fine lines may be more prominent or you may have deep wrinkles.
- Normal-your skin isn’t oily or dry, your pores are small and you don’t have many fine lines or wrinkles.
- Combination-combination skin is oily on the forehead, nose and chin, and dry or normal on the cheek and jaw area. You may have a few fine lines and wrinkles, especially on the dryer areas of the face, like your eyes and lips or jawline.
- Oily-oily skin is shiny all over, and you may have large pores, especially around the chin and nose area. You may find it difficult to keep your makeup looking fresh all day and may experience blemishes and breakouts more often. Fine lines and wrinkles may not be a concern for you.
A good way to determine your skin type is the tissue test. Take a tissue, preferably one without lotions in it, and tear it into 4 pieces. On your clean face, no makeup or moisturizers, stick one of the pieces of tissue to your forehead, one to your nose, one to your chin and one to your cheek. If all the pieces fall off and do not stick at all, your skin type is dry. If the pieces fall off your cheeks, but stick to your nose, forehead and chin, you have combination skin. If the pieces stick for a moment, then fall off, you probably have normal skin and if they all stick, you have oily skin.
Now let’s look at your skin care concerns.
When you look at your face first thing in the morning, with no makeup on, what are the things you would like to change?
- Fine lines and wrinkles around the eye and/or mouth area?
- Large pores?
- Deep wrinkles?
- Sagging skin?
- Loss of firmness?
- Dark circles?
- Bags under the eyes?
- Heavy eyelids?
- Breakouts and blemishes?
- What about scars from old blemishes?
- Other concerns?
Think about your specific skin care concerns and what you would like to change.

How to use your skin care regimen and treatments:
Step 1) Cleanse. Squeeze out about a dime size or less of the product onto your middle fingers. Rub the middle finger tips of your two hands together to get some product on both hands. In a circular motion, gently apply the cleanser all over your face. Use a warm, not hot wash cloth to remove access makeup, dirt and oil. Then rinse by splashing water all over your face.
Step 2) Treat. Apply your specific treatment to your middle fingers and rub together using both hands. If you are using more than one treatment, apply them thinnest to thickest. Always apply in an upward motion, gently and evenly, using a dabbing motion instead of a rubbing motion. Allow each treatment to dry first, before applying the next one if using more than one.
Step 3) Moisturize. Using your two middle fingers, scoop out a small amount and rub with both hands, then apply in an upward motion and pat all over your face. Don’t forget your neck and chest too!
Step 4) Eye Cream or Eye System. If you’re using an eye cream, just dab a dot or two onto your ring finger. Rub your two ring fingers together and pat the under eye area from the outer corner to the inner corner. Using a dual eye system, apply the cream the same way. Then apply the gel or elixir to the upper lid area from the outer corner to the inner corner.
Our Anew Skin Care Regimens come with both a day cream with SPF to help prevent sun damage and a night cream to help repair your skin while you sleep.
We also have our Skinvincible Day Lotion and Night Cream for sensitive skin, and our Night Hydration Mask, which I recommend for just about everyone!
