Why You Can Never Be Too Positive as a Leader
Being a leadership representative with Avon is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I’ve learned a lot and am still learning new things about being a good leader. One of the most important things I’ve learned is that you can never be too positive! I believe being positive, even when things are looking grim, can improve the outcome of situations and circumstances. As it’s often been said, how you react to a situation, your attitude about it and through it, often determines the outcome.
So, how can we, as leaders, display a positive attitude when, say one of our downline team members complain about a situation or a problem? What if the problem is a shortage in products or sale items? This does happen from time to time. Instead of jumping on the complain train, as a leader we should explain that these things do happen from time to time and help our downline deal with it in a positive manner. We can give them examples of positive things to say to their customers and point out that these things happen, even at the big box stores.
The key here is to NOT jump on the complain train with a down line member who is complaining about something. Their complaint may be legit, but it is your job as their leader to help them find a solution or show them how the situation can be turned around or corrected. Sometimes, things just have to be “gotten over” and you have to MOVE ON and LET IT GO. Sometimes that’s all you can do. Sometimes you need to voice your complaint to the authorities that can make changes and leave it in their hands. There are proper channels for this in Avon. Just remember, jumping on the complain train with your down line member, or anyone for that matter, is not the way to get things solved, nor is it a good way to lead your team.
